Hey! My name is Jamie Brookes and I am a Media Studies student at West Hatch High School. I am very keen of Media and hope to continue discovering the every changing world surrounding it in university and later life. For my A2 course myself and two others, Faye Martin and Elliot Lee must create a music video and digi-pack for a band of our choice. On my blog I will be showing all the research and ideas I have come up with as well as the finished projects themselves and an evaluation summarising everything I have completed during the course. We also have a group blog, were group decisions, discussions and final ideas are kept.

Marketing Strategies

I believe there are seven main marketing strategies which artists use to market and promote themselves. They are all shown below in the mind map:

Marketing is a very important part of an artists career as they will need to use all of these strategies to gain a larger fan base and to promote themselves further. Using the internet for example is an extremely good marketing technique as you can promote to a wide range of audiences whereas a biography or a chat show may only be aimed at a particular group or demography.

Music Video And Its Ideologies

Music is perceived ideologically as:

- Natural
- Subjective
- Expression
- Timeless
- About The Scenes
- Body
- Pleasure
- Freedom
- Resistance

I believe that the dominant ideological view on music is that it is something that generates atmosphere. It is a natural form of timeless enjoyment which can stimulate freedom and resistance.

Music is meant to be enjoyed, the video above the music adds to the enjoyment and atmosphere. Video adds an entire new element to music and can be used and perceived in a number of different ways.

"There is a common acceptance that music (video) and lyrics are linked but this isn't necessarily true - if you were to listen to 'Do you really want to hurt me' by Culture Club the lyrics would seem to be about romance but when you see the music video it features Boy George (Lead Singer) in front of a judge and this repositions the meaning to rhetoric about gay rights."
Hence Graeme Turner concludes that the video contains meanings totally unrecoverable from the song's lyrics.
